PhD degree programmes

A PhD degree programme at the Graduate School of Theology and the Study of Religion can be completed as either a 4-year or a 3-year programme.

4-year dual MA/PhD programme (4+4) (enrolment prior to passing a Master’s degree final examination)

Students who have not yet completed a Master’s degree programme are enrolled as PhD students on the 4-year dual MA/PhD degree programme (4+4). Applicants are required to have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or to have passed examinations equivalent of a 3-year Danish Bachelor’s degree) and to have passed Master’s degree examinations equivalent of 60 ECTS credits prior to their admission.

The total amount of study time must be kept within the eight years duration stipulated for the Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes. During the first two years (part A), PhD students are enrolled on both the Master's degree programme and the PhD degree programme at the Faculty of Theology.

The first two years after enrolment the PhD degree programme must be organised in such a way that the student completes those parts of the Master’s degree programme that are still outstanding. After passing the part A examination, the PhD student begins part B of the PhD degree programme.

The first two years after enrolment it is possible to apply for a PhD scholarship of app. DKK 129,000 per year (before tax). On part B, the PhD student will receive a scholarship of app. DKK 335,000 per year (incl. pension contributions and before tax)

3-year programme (5+3) (enrolment after passing a Master’s degree final examination)

On the 3-year PhD programme (5+3), students are enrolled after they have completed their Master’s degree. It is possible to apply for a PhD fellowship of app. DKK 335,000 per year (incl. pension contributions and before tax). Applicants with other types of funding are invited to contact the Faculty Secretariat.
